1.0 Course Overview

As a capstone course for the final year students of the BBA program, Strategy & Policy is designed to integrate concepts and knowledge from functional disciplines in the program. It is a “big picture” course, i.e. instead of concentrating narrowly on a particular function or unit of the business, you must examine the total organization and environment within which it operates, and analyse the causes of its success or failure. Managers today confront an increasingly uncertain and hostile business environment, and they need to possess strong analytical skills and broad capabilities for strategic thinking. The goal of this course is to help you develop these skills.

To develop students’ practical skills to analyse and evaluate, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the performance of corporations.
To prepare students with a range of generic transferable attributes enabling them to work individually and in teams to make challenging strategies

We apply and integrate analytical techniques from accounting, finance, management, marketing, economics, and related business disciplines. Two capabilities are of particular importance: (1) the ability to critically evaluate the profit potential of industries or environments and deal with the threats and opportunities presented by each; and (2) an understanding of how organizations work. Because this is a writing intensive course (as designated by the College of Business & Public Administration), organization, logical consistency, grammar, and clarity of your writing will impact your grade.…

Course Description: The focus of this course is on strategic management and business policy formulation and implementation. This course is designed as a "capstone course" to aid the student in synthesizing and applying knowledge gained in earlier courses and to introduce and apply theoretical concepts unique to strategic management. The objectives of the course will be achieved through lecture/discussions,…
