Research Title: CAUSES, TREATMENT AND PREVENTION OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY

BACKGROUND
In the past few years the incidence of childhood obesity has been on the rise. The goal of this research is to help arrive at a more comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of childhood obesity and its important implications. This will enable better able to collaborate on developing community-based solutions. JUSTIFICATION

In the past 30 years, childhood obesity has more than tripled. In 2008, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese. These facts are alarming since obese youth are more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Children and adolescents who are obese are at greater risk for bone and joint problem and are more likely to be obese as adults. They are therefore more at risk for adult health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, several types of cancer, and osteoarthritis. One study showed that children who became obese as early as age 2 were more likely to be obese as adults. These facts clearly show that there’s a problem that need to be addressed. RESEARCH QUESTION
