Causes of Insomnia
Have you ever turned and tossed in bed all night long? Have you ever woken up at midnight and could not fall asleep again? If you answer is affirmative, just be careful. Maybe you are a victim of insomnia. Insomnia can affect working efficiency and daily mood. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the main causes of insomnia which are psychological factors, life style and environmental factors. The first cause of insomnia and, in my opinion, the most important is psychological factors, including psychological pressure, unusual emotions, and mental illnesses. A study said that psychological pressure is the number one killer of insomnia. The pressure may come from work or school, and also family or marriage. These stresses may make people feel nervous and fear. Thus, people under pressure can have trouble in falling into sleep. Meanwhile, unusual emotions can also affect sleep, such as too excited or too sad. In this case, a person’s mind will keep being active and lively because of emotions. Then, falling asleep will be a hard work in that condition. Other than that, mental illnesses are also one of reasons for insomnia. Among mental illnesses, melancholia can cause insomnia easily. The second and an important cause of insomnia is life style, consisting of drinking coffee, doing exercise or mental work and drinking alcohol. First, some people like drinking coffee in the afternoon or at night. The result is that Caffeine may suppress sleep to some degree. Then, a person who prefers doing exercise and mental work at night also may own a bad sleep. The reason is that these actions may cause sharply emotions floating. Therefore, these emotions floating may affect sleep. In addition, drinking too much at night can also influence the quality of sleep easily. Alcohol may create an excited state and than cause insomnia in the end. The third and final cause of insomnia is environmental factors, such as temperature, brightness and noise. As...
