Calderan Dolphin Massacre Essay
The caldarian dolphin massacre is a sad event that happens once a year when the Calderon dolphins migrate passing through the shore of Denmark’s Faroe Isles. The People of these Isles get together and torture the dolphins to death by stabbing them several times, beating them, and amputating them alive. You can hear them screaming in agony. All this pointless slaughter for the tradition that the whole island part takes in. The slaughtering is mostly done by young teenagers.Even though the whole isles partakes in it either by killing or watching and celebrating the cruelty taking place. It is a tradition that according to the denmarkians of these islands proves you've entered the “gate” into manhood, to show that you are an adult and mature. It is a tradition/celebration that has been happening for hundreds of years, But to prove that you are a man by slaughtering one of the scientifically proven most intelligent and close to extinction, animals in the ocean in cold blood in my opinion , proves exactly the contrary. It just goes to show how barbaric man can be . Every year around February the caldarian dolphins migrate along the shoreline of the Faroe Isles. The Isles are a sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark, between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately halfway between Norway and Iceland. The total area is approximately 540 sq mi and a population of almost 50,000 people. The Isles have been a self governing country since 1948. The calderon dolphins are near extinction and they get near men to play and interact. In a way of making friendship. The colderan dolphin has traditionally been hunted by "driving", which is when many hunters and boats gathering a semicircle behind a pod of whales close to shore, and slowly drive them towards a bay where they become stranded and are then slaughtered.When the slaughtering starts, and what was once blue water turns red.
