1. Executive Summary

The determination of the viability or otherwise of establishing a cashew nut and juice processing factory in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state was carried out on 27th June, 2012. The machineries and housing for the processing operations were identified and cost of each machine was collected from the fabricators or marketers of such machine. Also markets and prizes of the products were identified. A financial analysis of the project establishment was carried out and it was found that the cost benefit ratio is 0.43:2.34, while yield is @ 20% (IRR) showing that the project when established in the local government area will be highly viable. Environmental issues were also highlighted and future products and services to sustain the project were suggested.

2. INTRODUCTION Cashew (ANACARDIUM OCCIDENTRUS) which is a tree crop has emerged as the most lucrative cash crop in Anambra, State in general and my Local Government Area in particular. At present there are over 683 hectares of cashew plantation at Oghe and Oji-River in Enugu State near Anambra. There are also few hectares of cashew plantation at Eke, Ebe, Afa, Umuoka, Obeagu, Orba and Opi, all in Enugu State. Cashew plantation also exists in; Abatete, Umunnab, Esinomo, Ogidi, Umunachi, all in Anambra state. It is therefore necessary to determine the viability or otherwise of establishing a cashew nut and juice processing factory in Idemili North local government area of Anambra. 3. PROJECT RATIONALE The project is the determination of the viability or otherwise of establishing a cashew nut and juice processing factory at Eziowelle village, Idemili North Local Governmant Area of Anambra state. This project is of great significance because of the establishment of the processing plant is viable it will make cashew crop more available by avoiding losses, provide better food and nutrition to the people, increase export and earn foreign
