In 2008, Toyota was ranked the world’s number one in motor vehicle production volume with more plants opening in Canada, USA and Mexico. Due to the worldwide recession, Toyota sales dropped tremendously, thereafter. Beginning in early 2010 Toyota’s sales, and stock price dropped again due to accelerator and brake problems with a number of their cars. People were afraid to drive and purchase the 2010 Prius as the brake problems occurred mainly in this line of car. Toyota was no longer ranked number one in motor vehicle production due to the problems the company faced in 2010. Currently in 2011, Toyota is concerned about how well the Lexus RX 330/350 has done in the North American market? Due to this matter, the operation management team has produced a report that concerns the Toyota Motor Company’s North American Lexus production decision made a few years ago and the production of Toyota’s strategy for North America.…

As many may be aware, Toyota is not shy to the media spotlight. Toyota has been the number one automobile distributor since 1935 when the founder, Kiichiro Toyoda revealed their first model the A1 and by the 1950s. Toyota had produced more than 100,000 vehicles. However, not all of Toyota’s fame has been popular. Many will remember the major automobile company by the massive number of recalls totaling nearly one million, occurring in several countries across the globe. Half of the recalls were in Japan alone, but others were in the United States, Zimbabwe, South Korea, China, and Tanzania, to name a few. The recalls were from acceleration problems in different vehicles such as the Prius, Hybrid, Camry, and Sequoia Sports Utility Vehicles. On February 1, 2010, Toyota Canada Incorporation made the announcement that it would be recalling approximately 270,000 Toyota vehicles equipped with a specific accelerator pedal assembly and suspending delivery of the eight models involved in the recall on January 26, 2010. In this paper, Team C will elaborate on Toyota and its marketplace, provide the latest corporate reports, compare the three macroeconomic variables of employment, GDP and how it relates to Toyota’s deficit performance, provide its environmental analysis, and analyze information that identifies any relationships between the United States economic trends and the operational performance of Toyota.…

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC): The Lexus RX 330 Line 1 On the day of April, 25th 2000, Greig Arnold found himself both anxious and excited as he approached the offices of Toyota’s worldwide headquarters in Toyota City, Japan. He was about to meet with the Chairman of global operations, Ikebuchi Nakatani, at the world’s third largest automaker. His hope was to convince the Chairman to support his company’s bid for the new Lexus RX 330 line, which would be the first of its kind manufactured outside of Japan. This would not be easy. Greig, along with the President of the division, was part of a delegation from the Toyota subsidiary in Canada, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC), which was 100% owned by the Toyota Motor Corporation. Although he was the Director of Operations at the Cambridge, Ontario plant, decision-making was very much a consensus-building process at Toyota and involved not only the President but inputs from line employees as well. After all, he was part of a company that was famous for its quality production system and employee involvement initiatives embodied in terms such as Total Quality Management and kaizen, Japanese for Continuous Improvement. All of these had originated within the company and were now standard terms in most business schools. Greig knew the strengths of having the global company locate its newest manufacturing venture at his plant but at the same time also knew that he had to act in accordance with the company’s values and ways of doing business. Meanwhile, Ikebuchi Nakatani looked over the one sheet of A3 paper in front of him with intense eyes. The paper took up only 14 inches by 10, but within it was information that helped him cope with making a decision that would be worth multiple millions of yen and could perhaps put the reputation of the company’s premier vehicles on the line. As the Chairman of global operations he was one of the highest authorities for making the final decision as to where the new…

The main topic of the case was the problems caused by defective or damaged seats. TMM USA's seat problem was threefold. The first was the actual defects with the hooks and the damaged caused by cross threading by employees when installing the seats. This problem led to the second problem, which was the departure from the Toyota Production System (TPS) when dealing with the seat problem. Rather than fix the problem with the seat when it happened, they continued with the car's production and worried about the seat afterwards. And this led to the third problem, a build up of cars with seat problems in the off-line operation area.…
