Objective Of The Study

Case Background:
Effective information system has a vital role in Warfield .Poor communication and insufficient systems don’t just waste money; they increase soldiers’ risk of being injured or killed. The U.S went into the Iraq war with many technological advantages. Despite these significant advantages U.S Military forces have the encountered with difficulties .These are information about enemy movement and troop levels did not reach the officers in the ground Quickly, slow down load speed buggy software etc.The organization of U.S military forces and the chain of command also played role. U.S Military used long chain of command and control process. As a result, there were time delays and gaps in flow of information .The environment in Iraq did not suit this strategy .Then they develop horizontal technology strategy .U.S Military use new horizontal technologies is TIGR in Iraq.TIGR is a combination of Google Maps and Wikipedia that helps soldiers access and distribute information about people , places and activity in Iraq. TIGR will be very helpful technology in future military campaigns.

Part -3
Case Study Question:
1. What features of organization are relevant for explaining the performance of information system during the Iraq war? 2. What difficulties did U.S military forces in Iraq encounter with information system? What management organization and technology factors contributed to these difficulties? 3. Describe TIGR and explain why it has been so beneficial to U.S patrol groups in Iraq. 4. Why is TIGR an example of a horizontal technology?

5. How helpful will TIGR in future military campaigns? Explain your answer.

ANSWER SECTION

1. What features of organization are relevant for explaining the performance of information system during the Iraq war?

IS and organization influence one another .The features of organization that are relevant for explaining the performance of information system during the Iraq that’s discussed bellow-

Routines and Process
Routines and process is an important feature of the organization. In Iraq war at first they used old fashioned process on command and control. For that reason, IS can’t perform perfectly. Then they develop horizontal communication process and applied it. As a result, IS performing perfectly.

Clear Division of labor
In Iraq war, at first IS can’t perform effectively because their exist huge division in military in case of flow of information .After some time they divide their work force in to small group then IS performed effectively and efficiently.

Hierarchy
At beginning in Iraq war U.S military follows long chain of command and control system for that reason IS can’t performed effectively .Then they change their hierarchy strategy and follow small chain of command and IS work efficiently.

Technology and Environment
Long chain for the purpose of IS wasn’t suitable with Iraq environment .Then U.S military change their strategy and applied horizontal technology TIGR which help to communicate effectively.

2(I) What difficulties did U.S military forces in Iraq encounter with information system?

U.S Army has made great technological strides for there survival and makes their effort active in combat zone such as: ➢ Data transmission capacity that was 42 times faster than system, which they had before. ➢ Motion sensors

➢ Heat detectors,
➢ Vehicle tracking,
➢ Blue force tracker etc.
Despite these significant advantages U.S Military forces have the encountered with some difficulties .These are- ➢ Information about enemy movement and troop levels did not reach the officers in the ground quickly. ➢ Units often outran the range of high capacity communication relays. ➢ Mobile communication suffered from slow down load speed buggy software etc. ➢ Communicating data leave the units, Vulnerable to attack ➢...
