1. (a) What is Case Study Analysis?
It is best to first understand what a case study is, before we proceed in understanding ‘case study analysis.’ A case study is basically the description of an administrative situation involving a decision to be made or a problem to be solved. In any case study, a decision has to be made, either to bring about a change in the situation or to leave the situation as it is and do nothing.
According to Hill & Jones (2009), case study analysis plays an integral part in strategic management. It is a method of research that gives us an understanding of a complex issue or problem and at the same time gives us an idea from previous researches. It is from analyzing case studies, that we learn of different types of problems faced by many companies and industries, as well as analyzing the steps managers have taken in addressing specific problems and concerns.
(b) What is the purpose of the case study?
The purpose of the case study is to provide us an understanding of the strategic management problems that organizations face daily and gives us the opportunity to apply concepts when we analyze issues faced by a specific organization or company.
It is best to remember that a case study provides us an account or a written record of events or details such as Information about a company, the objectives, strategies, and challenges encountered, as well as responses, results, and recommendations.
As a student, it provides us with experience of organizational problems. It also gives out a clearer meaning and implication of any information when applied to case studies. Lastly it provides us the opportunity to participate in class and to gain experience in presenting ideas to others.
