The business environment at the global level is changing at a very fast pace. Competition is growing in global scenario which is affecting India too. To meet with the changing pace, industry transformation and coming up with creative and innovative ways of managing an organization's structure, finances, people and strategy is important.
b) What was the key driver of the new HR initiatives of Maya Saxena and possibly Kartik’s? What are the possible hard and soft strategic HR interventions that can be thought of in devising the HR model of Flora? Answer:
The key driver of the new HR initiatives by Maya Saxena is:
i) Low employee morale
ii) Less chance of growth.
iii) No written mission and vision of the company.
iv) Less sense of belongingness of workers towards the organization. v) Less transparency.
vi ) High employee turnover.
Soft strategic HR interventions that can be thought of in devising the HR model of Flora: i) Trust, care, counseling, coaching and mentoring rather than suspicion, measurement and control. ii) Employee satisfaction, introducing innovative HR to make the workplace exciting for all employees including women, making them have a sense of ownership in Flora that had been starkly missing iii) Promoting a culture of sharing knowledge, and building a transparent culture in the company. iv) Create a sense of belongingness towards the organization. v) Employee rewards and recognitions.
vi) Employee Relations (including Diversity, Equality, Health and Safety). vii) Create promotion opportunities.
Hard strategic HR interventions that can be thought of in devising the HR model of Flora: i) Organizational design should be modified in terms of communication. ii) Commitment to high standards of performance.
iii) Resourcing and talent planning in a better and creative way. iv) Develop a system to measure and manage performance.
c) Why do you think that the increase in share prices of Flora was much slower than that in other similar companies even as their profits have been lower than those of Flora? Can HR department be given some role to help in this matter? Answer:
According to me the reasons for increase in share of Flora was much slower than that in other similar companies even as their profits have been lower than those of Flora are:
i) High employee turnover in relationship with other similar companies.
ii) No creative approach accepted. Followed only traditional practices in the fast growing market scenario.
iii) No CSR activities done.
Yes, the HR department be given some role to help in this matter, such as:
i) Develop creative ideas and generate internal competition.
ii) Involve in CSR activities, atleast recruit candidates having having physical abnormalities iii) Create more avenues for its present employees and reduce employee turnover.
d) What do you think should Kartik expect from Maya Saxena and her department? And, what are the changed roles performed by HR in the new era?
Kartik’s expectation from Maya Saxena’s department should be as follows:
i) Decrease employee turnover.
ii) Employees should be clear about the company’s mission and vision statement.
iii) Should create healthy competition amongst its employees.
iv) Create sense of belongingness.
v) Increase creativity.
vi) Keep a track of employee’s performance.
Changed roles performed by HR in the new era are:
i) HR professionals must master both theory and practice.
ii) The impact of HR practices on business results can and must be measured. HR professionals must learn how to translate their work into financial performance.
