Career choices made during and after graduation will affect your entire life, such as your career skills, earning potential, and social circle.   Given the right monumental importance of the decision, a small amount of planning can have a profound influence on your future success.

There are three steps that must be followed in finding employment after graduation.   These steps can mean the difference between a successful career and a dead-end one. The first step is to start early.   Create a resume.   The earlier in your college life you gain experience, the more impressive your resume will look to a potential employer.   If you cannot get a paid job, take an unpaid internship. From a resume's perspective, experience is experience.   Talk to everyone you know, ask if anyone needs an assistant or an extra help at their place of business.   Even if its a few hours a week, its experience you can add to your resume.
In choosing whether to pursue one opportunity or another consider what job   would sound more relevant and be more beneficial added to your resume. For example, if you plan to graduate with an Engineer Degree, a position at the local pizza parlor would not be beneficial to add to your resume.  

The second step is preparation.   Decide how you are going to plan your career, even if you are not sure what choices are out there for you.   The more research you do on different kinds of jobs, the more likely you are able to select one that is more appropriate in gearing you towards your career.   Preparation means talking to your counselors, meeting people who are in the field(s) of your interest, joining groups with the same interest, and networking.   You could go a step further and find a mentor.   Find a contact that will empower you to secure the most appropriate job and path after graduation.
