I started fourth grade many years ago after my family decided that we, my 2 brothers & sister, deserve a better life. So they decided to move to the United States from Mexico. It was one of the hardest things for me because I didn’t know the English language. Several kids told me that it was going to be very difficult for to graduate because as the years went on, the harder it got. That really made me sad, I even told my mom about it. This is what she said to me, “Why don’t you take that comment and make a good use of it? Prove them that you can do it and just barely, but with excellent grades. If you believe in it, you can achieve it.” From that day on, I set my mind on graduating, but just graduating, graduating with every student in my class that I am with right now. Nine years later, what do you know, I graduated with the same people that I was with in my fourth grade class. Not just that, I was 14th place in my class and couldn’t be any happier than receiving my diploma with the other students that were in the National Honors Society. I was proud of myself and so were my parents. I had my family’s full support during high school and I still do now that I am in college. They are what make me believe in myself. Even though I’m not the oldest child, I was going to be the first one to graduate from college. My older brother and sister decided to quit school after high school because they didn’t think that education was important. My older sister got married and moved back to México, and my brother, works with my dad as a farmer. That just made me wanting even more to graduate college and get a degree. My mother and father want me to be part of the school’s activities and help out in every way that I can. What they don’t know is that college isn’t quite like high school.
