Values seem to always affect the kind of path we choose in life. The biggest decision our values affect is the career path we choose to follow and the way we decide to approach it. Our life is based on certain core values and these values make us who we are as a person. It is important for me to stick to my core values in order to have that satisfying life I desire. Though my core values vary, these are some of my values that drives me as an individual- Achievement, Adventure, Cheerful, Competitiveness, Courageous, Creativity, Family happiness, Freedom, Health, Power, Recognition and Wealth.
If you look closely at my values, you might see a co relation among all of them. They completely define a picture of who I am. I’m the kind of person who likes to dream big and make my dreams a reality. My certain values or personal characteristics help me get through situations and circumstances that normally would be hard to deal with. My values are based on the simple idea of standing out and doing something different. I like to think different and live my life to the fullest. I know in the real life where we have bills and other responsibilities, all these values seem hard to satisfy but I don’t want to be the guy who would ten years down from now regret the fact that he never tried to make his dream a reality by not giving priority to his core values and to who he really is.
Though all my values are equally important to me, but there are certain values that have a higher level of importance and influence in my life. The most important of them all would be Family happiness, this value of mine does stick out in the bunch of values I listed due to the fact that most of my other values are about me being different and sticking out. Though that is who I am, but when it comes down to it I put family first. I have been brought up in a really close knit family environment, thus any major decisions I take in life, I usually consult my family and make sure that their happiness is not at stake.
Secondly, I would definitely put Achievement as another top value. It is really important for me to achieve excellence in what I do. A sense of achievement on an everyday basis is what drives me. The next important value would be Courageous, since that’s the one key characteristic that helps me take those risky decisions in life. This quality of mine really helps me cope with any hurdles that life throws at me. It helps me get back on my feet, when life knocks me down.
The fourth top value would probably be Health, its really important for me to stay in shape cause it just helps me to be a better person and this value acts like a back bone to the rest of my values as well. It also helps me develop a sense of control over my life. The last but still really important value would probably be Recognition. I’m an individual who likes to be recognized for his work. I’m not scared to put enough effort into my work, but all I ask at the end of day is people to see and appreciate it. Just the feeling of being recognized for my work makes me want to push it even harder.
When it comes down to my career anchors, I mainly land between Entrepreneurial creativity and Pure challenge. These two anchors may seem a little different but they do have one thing in common, the getting bored part. I believe I am the kind of person who likes to do something new everyday I wake up. I don’t want my life to be limited to one kind of experience, I really want to explore my options and face new challenges on daily basis.
Entrepreneurial creativity is my key career anchor since I’m a really innovative person, if someone does something one way I always seem to find a different way of doing the same thing. I hate being like everyone else. I might not always be successful the way I try to do things but it gives me a sense of satisfaction that I at least tried. Another major reason of me being in this category is...
