The principles for the safe handling of medicines do not vary depending on type of care offered, people cared for or size of business. Your home, and you, have a duty of care to properly handle medication

You did a great job at picking your research topic. The perfection of the medication administration process is a must. It is so important to give the right medication to the patient in the correct manor. For instance, I know an individual that let me know they were in a hurry and gave dilaudid via IV push. Although it was the correct medication the nurse gave it in less then thirty seconds when the standard is to give it over a period of two to three minutes. The patient became nauseated, and vomited. It was not a pretty situation. The good news is that it was not the wrong medication, and it was given incorrectly. Also, I work with a pharmacists that was a nurse first. She has a saying I truly believe in when it comes to the medical…

I agree that medication administration is a task that requires much skill and caution. Refusing to administer a medication that one is not familiar with is a worrisome adventure. Nurses have the obligation to ensure safety for their patients, and also have an obligation to provide care that the physician has ordered. With the rise in medication errors, prudent nurses are increasing patient safety by questioning unclear or unsafe orders more often; medication errors, including prescribing, repackaging, dispensing, administrating, and monitoring, account for one death every day and 1.3 million injuries (U. S. Department of Health, 2016). Not only are the patients at risk…

The administration of medication by nurses is the final step in a process that involves multiple steps carried out by a number of health professionals (medical practitioners, pharmacists and registered nurses). The accuracy, efficiency and safety of administration of medications rest primarily with nurses.
