Caravaggio’s Works

Caravaggio, his birth name was Michelangelo Merisi he was born on September 29, 1571 in Merissa Italy. He was a famous Italian painter with great influence both in Italy and with works in Rome, Naples, Malta, and Sicily. The paintings that made Caravaggio were mostly skilled in painting and his works were from the declining end of the Renaissance. His paintings use a combination of the realistic observations of the physical and emotional human state. He also had a great sense of dramatic lighting, which he was taught, at the Baroque school of painting. In terms of traditional techniques Caravaggio used the relation between objects and natural and artificial light and the ability of color to construct and define. In becoming a good artist Caravaggio practice his work in Rome and many other places. Caravaggio began to work for Giuseppe Cesar, a highly established painter. One of the first Caravaggio paintings was a Boy with a Basket of Fruit. In a journal article written by Troy Thomas, entitled "Expressive Aspects of Caravaggio's First Inspiration of Saint Matthew", these rejected paintings are discussed. The article focuses on the themes of these rejected works, but namely Inspiration of St. Matthew, and uses these themes to prove the work's validity.

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was the son of Fermo di Bernardino Merisi and Lucia Aratori. Caravaggio lost his father, who passed away when he was eleven years old along with his, 3 other siblings. When Caravaggio was 12, he was appointed to Milanese Painter, Surano Peterzano. During this internship, he learned basic techniques, such as selecting brushes, mixing paints, and how to build frames. During this time, he learned the Lombard and Venezian style.
