One advantage of having capital punishment is that it can serve as a deterrence. When people are aware of the harsh consequences of their actions, they would usually prevent such actions to avoid the subsequent punishment that would be carried out. The idea of capital punishment would make many think twice before a certain action such as murder and thus, capital punishment can help to decrease the number of crime rate.
Another advantage of carrying out capital punishment is to serve as a form of closure for the victim;'s family members and at the same time, provide justice for the victim.
On the other hand, capital punishment also has many disadvantages. One of it would be the violation of human rights. As we know, every human has the right to live and we do not have the right to take away another person's life. Though the convicted may be sentenced due murder, we still do not have the right to take away the life of the convicted. Think of it in a easier way, what makes us different from the murderer, if we were to carry out capital punishment on the murderer. We are both killing people and capital punishment though being legalized, is no different than the idea of just killing people.
Also, there have always been cases of wrongful execution where innocent people were being executed for a crime he or she does not do. It should be noted that there would be no chance of the innocent reviving after being executed. Hence, capital punishment involves a certain degree of risk that we may punish the wrong person.
