CMMI-based process improvement includes identifying an organization’s process strengths and weaknesses and making process changes to turn weaknesses into strengths. The CMMI model provides organizations a rating on a numerical scale (1 – 5, with 5 being the highest) and is managed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI).” (Acq Notes, 2012)  Level 1, Initial, the processes are unpredictable, poorly control and reactive. There is no standard and procedure for staff to follow. Thus, the processes in this level is chaos and ineffective. Level 2, Managed, processes are characterized by projects and often reactive. The processes are being planned, documented, carried-out, monitored, and controlled. In addition, clarify the company goal and standards. Level 3, Defined, processes characterized for the organization and are proactive. Implementation of the system occurs in this level. The projects tailor their processes from organization’s standard. The business process is effective and evident in the system. Level 4, Quantitatively managed, the processes are measured and controlled. Realize the effectiveness and efficiency in the system. Compare the processes with the benchmarks or leaders to have a continuing improvement of the company processes. Level 5, Optimizing, it focus on process improvement. In this level, the business processes operate at max efficiency and are the benchmarks or leaders of operation and at max effectiveness.
