Abstract
Berkeley College, located in New York, NYC, was founded in 1931 as a co-educational business college. Current enrollment exceeds 8,000 students, with campus located throughout New York and New Jersey (Berkeley College, 2010). Financial Aid is one of the main offices that provide students with counseling on financial matters and the “how to” on applying for federal aid. The Financial Aid office consists of a Manager, two Financial Aid Advisors, three Student Account Representatives, and a Receptionist; which have daily contacts with the student population.
An Analysis of Berkeley College Financial Aid Office
In 2009, Madeline Mendez-De La Cruz, Manager of Financial Aid, prepared a recommendation to the Executive Officers of Berkeley College to hire an additional financial aid advisor to help reduce student wait time that occurred throughout the academic year 2008/2009, July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. Before Mrs. Mendez-De La Cruz decided on the recommendation of the additional advisor, she implemented a daily control sheet, which indicated the daily walk-in volume and time spent with each staff member. Upon review of the control sheet, a chart was utilized that supported her recommendation.

Berkeley College opened for business in 1931, as a college of business. Since opening its doors in East Orange, New Jersey, Berkeley College has expanded its campuses to New York City and its surrounding cities. Located in midtown Manhattan, off of Grand Central Station, the new campus offered the equivalent education as its main campus.
75 years later, the New York campus has been able to distinguish itself from other business college as a leader in education. The College became fully accredited by the Middle States Association and received Board of Regents to change its name to Berkeley College.
