INTRODUCTION

Neptune Orient Lines Limited (NOL) is an organization from Singapore which provides container shipping and logistics, with over 10,000 staffs and 331 offices in 112 countries in over the world. Neptune Orient Lines Limited is one of the biggest Shipping & Logistics Company in Asia. NOL has 2 sub-companies are APL and APL Logistics. Every year, the volume is over 2 million forty foot equivalent units (FEU) in worldwide transportation.

With the big range in container shipping, in business from 1848 APL is the seventh-largest container transportation and shipping company in current scenario. APL provides shipping, terminal services and other services. With a big number of vessel in operating, APL is proudly to has 153 vessels and a container fleet with 1.141.370 units

APL Logistics is another sub-company of NOL currently, it’s providing international solutions in logistics, and APL Logistics also has over 15 million square feet of warehousing in over the world.

“A mission statement is a statement of purpose of a company, organization or person, its reason for existing.” (Wikipedia)

According to the statement that I just show, a mission of an organization is the purpose, the target, a value point to reach, to meet. The purpose of an organization or a company can easy to call as an achievement, so the mission of a company is around the question “What the company works for”, mission statement or company’s mission also defines the reason that the company or the organization exist for.

“Vision statements are seen as documents that set out the strategic intentions of the organization. They are about animating the dream“(Business Essentials)

A vision or the vision statement is the way that every company and organization in over the world defines its strategy, planning for the future development and making decision in some ways. In reality, if mission statement is define what a company exist for, the vision statement will give people the closer look of the process in reaching, meeting the goals, objectives in short-term and the long-term targets or achievements of a company or an organization.

“Goals generally apply to shorter time frames than the more general mission statement but they are still non-specific and not quantified” (Business Essentials)

Goal is result or a target the organization wants to archive in a short-time, especially, goals are not quantified by any standard, it’s just a target in short-time to remind the organization to perform the well-operating. In addition, the sales monthly of a company can be a goal, for example: NOL wants the sales in the next 3 months go up (not measurable, not quantified and just go up). In some organization, the goals also are divided and developed for the stakeholders like customers, suppliers, employees etc.

“In general, the objective is broader is scope than a goal, and may include several individual goals. Objectives are basic tools that underly all planning and strategic activities. They serve as the basic for creating policy and performance evaluation” (Business Dictionary)
