Case Problem 1-A
1. The managerial roles that are emphasizing and present are strategic and operational planner as well as monitor and disturbance. Otis emphasized strategic planning because he is setting a direction for his company, while dealing with the recession which is a part of external environmental. Otis is presenting operational planning by introducing new menu items at a low price and use cheaper vineyard to keep profits up. With monitor and disturbance both roles deal with control, Otis involves changing unacceptable condition to accepted stable condition.
2. The challenges that the restaurant manager would face are human, financial, physical, and informational resource. Even with having lower price items or even selecting a cheaper vineyard, if these item are not attracting customer manger would have to start let their human resource(employees) go because sale are not where they should be. Without financial resource (money) the restaurant will not run the way it needs to run. Nor the company will keep profits up so then another approach would have to be implemented. Then the problem exists with the tangible goods not getting what the company needs. Finally informational resource is lost so communication among the company is lost.
3. I would suggest the top-level management look at what motivates the customer to eat at that restaurant of choice and if the customer was satisfied with their food. One way to do this it when the waitress brings the check he/she bring a comment card that give the customer so much off the next visit once completes, if complete the waitress would then give the customer the coupon. On the card would simple ask the experience at the restaurant? This is part of the Maslow Need Hierarchy.
4. Based on the media reports, Otis has been a great success to the Darden chain in continuing success. By using his managerial skills (technical, interpersonal, conceptual, diagnostic, and...
