As the owner wakes up from a great night of sleep and walks into the living room; they see what should have never happened. A giant snake laying on the floor, jaws wide open as a child’s foot slips into its mouth. This is not fiction, and it could happen to any snake owner. About 150,000 dangerous beasts have entered the Florida Everglades and people’s homes. The scariest animals in Florida are called the Burmese and African Rock Pythons. They aren’t just invaders; they are the start of death. All in all, Burmese and African Rock Pythons are a serious problem that need to be stopped and kept out of peoples’ homes. In the first place, both pythons are way too easy to get. In Florida pet shops are allowed to sell Burmese Pythons. (Benard 2) There is no reason why they should be sold there, but people will get them other ways too. The black market is ridiculous. Anyone can get anything from the black market, including snakes. As a result, if pythons are allowed in pet shops, they should have to be surgically tagged so that scientists and the wild life conservations can see them. Not only that, it will scare the owners into not letting their pet escape. Something should be done to keep these beasts in check. Furthermore, letting pythons escape needs to be more controlled. Once owners of these snakes can’t handle them or just don’t want them there should be a place to bring these overgrown beasts. In order to do that, training more people to handle a python is necessary. It’s sad that only 38 patrollers and responders were trained to stop the spread of pythons. (Nature Conservancy 1) If there were more trained people rewards could be given out to the Burmese and African Rock pythons that are delivered safely to an area where scientists can study them. They may be able to find other ways to catch them. Some
scientists say a good way to catch them is trapping the snakes using pheromones and...
