“Buddhism is not a religion”
The Buddhist path is fundamentally a process of learning to recognize this essential nonexistence of the self, while seeking to help other living beings to recognize it as well. Buddhism has no God and only believe in meditating because it leads to enlightment. A person who agrees with the statement would say how if they have no God, it means it’s not a religion, they only have teachings from the Buddha. You can see from all other religions that they worship God. Christians worship Jesus, Hindus worship many Gods but the main God they worship is Brahman and Muslims worship Allah. This is because theists believe that God has given everything life so in return they should worship Him. But Buddhist don’t worship anyone so Buddhism isn’t a religion. Another point might be that many people see it as a way of living. They leave luxuries because they want to join others who are doing the same. They meditate to reach enlightment and can only eat from sunrise to noon. This can be done by a non-Buddhist ,even an atheist, because they want to have a new view to life and give up what they have for granted and feel at peace and relaxed. It was their choice and anyone can be a Buddhist as all you need to do is meditate following a few rules. Other people might disagree with the statement and argue how Buddhism is a religion as it follows the main aspect and the meaning of religion. There are many stories to support this point such as the Monkey King and the Mangoes and the Birth of Buddha. Both are valuable towards the beliefs of the religion just like in Hinduism (a religion) there is the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
