Performance objective

The candidate must demonstrate capabilities in developing project plans and individual performance plans.

This assessment ‘Project Planning’ is the first part of an overall holistic assessment for this unit.

Assessment description

As a team leader it is important that you are able to support your team in identifying skills gaps and in a specific skill or knowledge area.

You will need to identify a project that involves learning a new set of skills. You must present this project to a ‘team’, assess their current skill levels and develop plans to address any skills gaps.

Procedure

1. Develop the project proposal
Identify an area of focus for the project and prepare a project proposal. The project must involve a team completing a task or series of tasks. The project must involve the team members learning new skills and working as a team. Examples may include: a. Assembling furniture b. Cooking a meal

c. Developing a brochure using Google docs

2. Obtain approval
Your assessor or facilitator will act as a stakeholder/supervisor for this project. You must obtain signed approval for your proposal from your assessor before you proceed with your project.

3. Organise your team
You will be assigned 2 team members by your assessor or facilitator. You will need to work with them for the duration of the course. You must arrange a meeting with them to explain your project, set roles and responsibilities and conduct a gap analysis.

4. Conduct a gap analysis
Meet with your team and explain the project. Conduct a ‘Gap analysis’ to identify their current skill set and opportunities for further development. Record notes from this meeting.

5. Develop individual performance plans
Develop a performance plan with each of your team members to address skills gaps. This performance plan must be implemented in the second stage of the project.

6. Submit to assessor
This assessment task must be completed in full and submitted to the assessor by the agreed date before you can proceed to the second assessment task.

Specifications

Outcomes include:
Project proposal
Notes from team meeting identifying roles and responsibilities of team members A gap analysis for each team member
An individual project plan for each team member (signed by team leader and team member).

A meeting you have scheduled where you are prepared to discuss your goal and work to clarify the steps you intend to take to get there.
