BROADBAND SERVICES CATCHING MARKET IN GLOBAL AIRLINE INDUSTRY
(12 Sep 2011) Airline passengers are today taking no chance to go for flight equipped with internet broadband services. As it has not only became requirement for the business travelers but has also attracted to work in flight for their essential office or personal work through iPads or laptops or mobile devices. A recent survey says that passengers are preferring flight in airline with broadband services to over non-broadband service providing airlines. Thus ever growing popularity with broadband services has enabled airline to introduce that facility on their fleets. Besides, accessing mails passengers also like to surf web for news, weather, bankings, shopping and gathering information, searching hotels and lodging etc. Earlier, airline around the globe has experienced similar type of competition and success for in-flight entertainment systems on their fleets.
The ideal of broadband services in-flight was first introduced on military aircrafts in earlier 1980s. Then it was introduced on airlines industry in year 2000. A Lufthansa airline was the first airlines to introduce the broadband services on its fleet. But airlines globally remain distance from those services as its initial cost to installation was estimated around $200,000 USD to $500,000 USD. The other reason behind the airline to stay away from the services was uncertain feedback from the travelers. However as time passed, internet users has increased four fold. Now it has became requirement for the airlines to go that services in order to sustain the competition from their counterparts.
