Breast Cancer
“Breast Cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cell of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. The disease occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get it, too.” “Cancer begins when cells in a part of the body starts to grow out of control. There are many kinds of cancer but they all start because of out-of control growth of abnormal cells. ” My risk factors are “much above average.” The risk factors you can’t control are genetics, family history, environmental exposures, or past behaviors that have occurred. You can control what you do right now and in the future. You may avoid risk factors if you have a healthy diet, exercise, avoid tobacco and other chemicals. This does not mean you will continuously be or stay healthy but it will lessen the odds. You need to start screening yourself at the age of 40 and continue to screen every year after. Early detection is important to find Cancer before it becomes untreatable. By screening yourself yearly, you can discover if you have a tumor before they become malignant, which is called pre-cancer. Drinking alcohol on a regular basis can increase your risk factors for Breast Cancer. Alcohol raises a woman estrogen levels, estrogen can cause breast cells to become malignant. Limiting your alcohol can reduce your risk of Breast Cancer as well as reducing your risk of Colon Cancer, Hypertension, Stroke, and Osteoporosis. Studies show that one alcohol drink a day can reduce your chances because it can decrease the risk of Heart disease and Diabetes. Women who take birth control are at a greater risk for developing Breast Cancer than women who don’t take birth control at all. Genes contribute less than 15% to the risk of Cancer, your behavior contributes 60%, and your environmental exposure contributes less than 10%. Everything you do to contribute to a...
