Breaking Bad- An Influential Series
Breaking Bad is a fictional drama television series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. The lead character, Walter White, is a high school chemistry teacher that is diagnosed with lung cancer. Walter White partners up with Jesse Pinkman, a druggie and a former student of his, and turns to making methamphetamine with aim of securing his family’s financial future before he dies. Taking place in Albuquerque, New Mexico and his brother-in-law being a Drug Enforcement Agent, Mr. White faces numerous challenges due to his decision to produce the best on the market methamphetamine. Breaking Bad stands as my favorite show on television because it has opened my eyes and raised questions that I have never once considered. Drastic times call for drastic measures. Breaking Bad resulted me to reflect on exactly how far would I go for my family and loved ones. Breaking the law for loved ones can dig you into an even deeper hole than the original one. Walter White left me contemplating the question- is it worth it?
Towards the beginning of the television series, Jesse Pinkman carries a gun with him to a house, in hope to force the people to pay up for the meth that they stole from Mr. White and himself. At that house, he finds a small boy not being taken care of at all because his parents are so strung out on methamphetamine. While trying to force the parents to pay up, Pinkman witnesses the father of the young child be murdered by the accountable for the death of that father because of their decision to produce methamphetamine. Mr. White’s decision to manufacture the methamphetamine to make money for his family resulted in the death of not only this man, but also several other people. Again, is it worth it? I could not bring myself to answer this question. I was angry with myself for not being able to answer that question. Family should be everyone’s top priority, it should not matter that one might have to hurt...
