Executive Summary and Overview
Barnes and Nobles Book Depot, has decided to add a strategic project to complement their existing bookstore capabilities and the web site www.BarnesandNobles.com. To stay ahead in the competition, Barnes and Nobles Book Depot needs to develop and implement a 24-hour-a-day ‘Book Depot’ concept in its current and proposed store locations. This will enhance and extend existing bookstore location hours of operation. Customers will be able to access the book stores 24 /7 and 365 days a year. The automated bookstore provides customers with the ability to brows the bookshelves and purchase books at any time of day or night. At the time of automated bookstore hours there will be minimal or no staff assistance will be provided. The book depot wants to enhance existing, traditional bookstore capabilities and existing web site capabilities. The intent is to keep existing customers committed to Barnes and Nobles Book Depot’s bookstores and reach out to new customers. Background

Barnes and Nobles Book Depot, is a regional bookstore, is in business since 1925. Since that time, the company has grown to become a prominent bookstore chain, selling all types of fiction and non-fiction books in 53 store locations across western states of USA. Barnes and Nobles Book Depot currently offer its customers both online (over the internet) via their existing website and in-store ordering abilities. Business Need:

To stay ahead of the competition and expand its repeat customer base needed to come up with innovative idea that increases customer traffic and purchases. Objectives
1.Implement new technology that will allow customers ease and flexibility to purchase books securely at any time. 2.Enhance customer service.
3.Providing customers physical accessibility of book stores during hours when the bookstores are typically closed to the public. 4.To achieve increase in revenue and decrease in operating cost of the book stores by minimal staff or no staff in the non operative hours. 5.
