The natural course of society is not to be tampered with. Disruptions to the path of society initiate conflicts that have occurred throughout history. Hilter’s control and Mussolini’s censorship to gain stability and power are only two examples that illustrate the negative effects of disturbance. Stability should remain firmly in position without the effects of exercising restraint and suppressing materials deemed objective by a goverment. An unstable society could result because of a lack of control or extremes of control and censorship. The outcomes of such acts of control and censorship have many repercussions when forced upon a population. In Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, the government initiates censorship and control to morph society and create the desired outcome of stability. The World State citizens are conformed to a lifestyle because of continuous conditioning resulting in a lack of differentiation between views. Lenina is a strong figure of conformity, while Bernard is more individualistic and rebellious. Bernard and Lenina are introduced to an eye opening experience as they travel to the Savage Reservation and meet Linda and John the Savage. Mother and son are brought back to London where John experiences the effects of stability which later leads to his tragic death. Science, or the knowledge of life, is apparent in the novel which leads to the repercussions. Controlling science to solely advance the means of the government is unjust and is morally reprehensible. Also, religion is censored by the World State in attempts to create stability. However, the stability is tinted because the means of achieving it are not justified. Finally, the control and censorship of art is used to create stability by eliminating expression and knowledge. The repercussions on society as a whole prove the unjust ways of censorship.
