Brain rule number 7 really relates and plays somewhat of a role in my daily activity. For example come the end of the day around 2:30 I feel almost like I'm just starting to doze off and fall asleep. According to brain rule 7, it says that taking a nap may improve your productivity for the next days events. It also states that even so, the brain isn’t resting while it sleeps but is surprisingly active. And whether you get enough rest affects your mental agility the next day. Brain rule number 4 I'm sure many people can relate to because i don't know how many times i have sat through a power point and didn't pay attention. I was more focused on what people were doing around me, or thinking about what i have planned for after school, or for the upcoming weekend. It states that people do not pay attention to boring things which couldn't be more than true because I have experienced some boring things in my life whether it was a conversation i wasn't interested in or a task that I have no interest in. I'm pretty sure many people have been in a conversation with another human being and wasn't really paying attention to what they had to say and giving them the yea or nodding of the head response so it shows them that they think your listening. Sometimes i have been in a conversation where I'm saying to myself, "wow i don't care i just want to be on my merry way and get this conversation over with." I have high expectations that everyone in this world has participated and can relate too 2 or more of these brain rules maybe not knowing they are even rules, but i have found that these 2 particular rules i have picked out, I have used and or participated in many times in my life sometimes

    The video put the chapter into visual perspective for me in terms of learning about our brain structure and it’s different parts. The video describes the three important jobs our neurons do: receive information from other cells, process information, and transmit it to the rest of the body. Without our neurons we would have no brain activity. All behavior begins with an action from a neuron. First the brain gathers information from the receptors and spread it around it’s branch fibers, or dendrites. Next the information is sent to the soma, the neurons cell body, where it is combined with other information. Finally, the entire input is passed along within the axon in form of nerve impulses. It’s fascinating to learn that no neurons actually ever touch; they send messages across the synaptic gap, called neurotransmitters. Nerve impulses and transitive chemicals give our human behavior its complexity psychologists and scientists have been studying for ages. Our brain regulates our metabolism, temperature, respiration, and allows us to learn, remember, and decide. The brain uses all it’s parts reacting as a complete part of the nervous system. The brain stem connects the brain to the nerves and spinal cord and is the center for basic life support –breathing, beating of the heart, walking, and sleeping. The cerebellum controls our poster and body movement. Conclusively the limbic system balances our temperature, blood pressure, emotions, and sexual desire. We would not be able to complete these necessary unconscious tasks without the amygdala, hippocampus, hypothalamus, and the thalamus. Our cerebrum is the largest part of our brains. This is where our nerve impulses are translated into words and ideas. The outer layer of the cerebrum is the cortex, the center of thought, perception, and the integration of all responses and sensation. Without the video I honestly don’t think I would’ve been able to explain ANY of the brain…

    Based on my research and my own experience, I think sleep patterns can have a dramatic effect upon cognitive functions. When I myself get too little sleep, I am unable to think clearly. When I get too much sleep, I am not revived and am sleepy all day. I feel that the sleep did not revive as it should because I actually overslept. In my research, I found supporting documentation based on my experience. I read about how are brain produces brain support cells and detoxifies while we are sleeping. The support cells are known as oligodendrocytes, these support cells produce myelin that wraps around neurons and allows electrical impulses to move rapidly between them, similar to how insulation works around electrical wires. This helps us to awake and feel refreshed and remember things better. In the article below references a new study by the Centers for Disease Control Prevention (CDC) that too little sleep (six hours or less) and too much sleep (10 hours or more) with chronic diseases in adults aged 45 years and older. The study involved more than 54,000 participants in 14 states in the US. Both short and long sleepers reported a higher prevalence of coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity and anxiety, compared to optimal sleepers who got seven to nine hours of shut-eye on average.…
