‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ Book Review
Title: The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Author: Robert Louis Stevenson
Type of book: Mystery
1. Plot of Book
As Mr. Utterson and Mr. Enfield come across an old door. Mr. Enfield is reminded of a man linked with that door, Mr Hyde, who was supposedly a friend of Dr. Jekyll.
A maid sees Edward Hyde club Sir Danvers Carew to death. After the murder, Mr. Utterson accompanies a police inspector to Hyde's residence. Strangely, Hyde is nowhere to be found. Mr. Utterson confronts Dr Jekyll once again about his connection with Hyde and he promises to have nothing to do with Hyde ever again.
Slowly, Dr. Jekyll returns to his former self, hosting parties and helping out with many charities. Mysteriously, Dr. Jekyll stops seeing people and Dr. Lanyon falls critically ill. Before his death, Dr. Lanyon gives Mr. Utterson a letter that must be opened only upon his death.
While Mr. Utterson and Mr. Enfield are taking another walk, they come across Dr. Jekyll looking out his window. As they talk to him, they witness a horrifying transformation in the doctor's appearance that leaves them stunned.
One night, Poole requests Mr. Utterson’s help as Dr. Jekyll had locked himself in his laboratory. As they approach the door, they hear Hyde’s voice. Assuming that Hyde was in there, both force their way inside. They see Hyde dead on the floor, in Dr. Jekyll’s oversized clothes. Later, they find a letter written by Dr. Jekyll.
In both letters Mr. Utterson realises that Dr. Lanyon had dies of shock from realising that Hyde was in fact Dr. Jekyll and in Jekyll’s confession letter, Hyde had taken over Jekyll and as Jekyll had no other way of recreating the antidote, he had no choice but to take his own life.
2. Why I like the book
I really liked the book as it is a very insightful book. It shows us how each and every one of us has the capability to be either good or evil. Just like how Dr Jekyll wanted to be someone he... [continues]
