Kate and her sister, Georgia, moved to Paris to live with their grandparents after their mother and father died in a car crash. Traumatized, she closes herself from her feelings, emotion and the world around her.
Until one day while she was reading in a café, she laid her eyes on mysterious, gorgeous Vincent. They meet and hang out. However, Vincent is not who he seems; he’s a revenant, an undead guardian who helps to save humans from potential danger or death. He and his kindred also have their enemies: the numas, undead evil-doers, try their best to lure humans to their deaths through various different methods.
Kate struggles to keep her safe, her body along with her heart, for fear of losing someone she loved once again.
Yet at last they came together, their relationship stronger than ever, and killing Vincent’s old foe, Lucien, a numa.
Die For Me, by Amy Plum is a paranormal, fantasy romance fiction sweet enough to melt a hard heart. Vincent, born in the nineteen-twenties however remaining eighteen, is a man of courtesy; as Kate, a hopeless romantic, seeks to find somewhere she could feel alive again after her parents’ death. The emotion in the book is very rich. While it is filled with romance and sparks between Vincent and Kate, you would find lovely sisterly moments Kate and her sister, Georgia share. My overall impression of Die For Me is excellent. As I watch Kate fall head over heals in love with Vincent, and seeing him try to resist his revenant nature to be with her, I get to experience the love and care Kate’s family feel for her.
Moreover, the revenants are about secretly sacrificing themselves in place for the safety, or the life, of humans. This proves a great deal of humanity that remains in this world of cruelty and lies. The existence of Vincent and other revenants sheds light onto the evil that hoards parts of Paris.
My favourite part of the book was after Vincent’s “dormant” body is almost permanently destroyed by Lucien, his old foe, when Jean-Baptiste, Vincent’s “uncle” puts his trust in Kate for not running off when faced with the very lethal Lucien. Kate says she could not, would not, have done anything else but to stand by Vincent and other revenants. The loyalty was unmistakable; it was very touching. And I thought it was very beautiful.
Among all the fascinating characters, I would like to meet Jeanne, Jean-Baptiste’s housekeeper, who also took care of the revenants’ daily necessities. Jeanne is a normal human being, whose family has been working for Jean-Baptiste for generations. From everything she shares with Kate, it seems like she is very devoted to her job. It felt as if she never hesitated to help the revenants. I would like to ask her if she had ever had any doubts towards revenants or her job taking care of them. And how she struggles to maintain a balance between this job and her family (husband and children) at home.
This truly is an interesting, worthwhile book. This is the third time I have read Die For Me and I still tear up at all the right times. I hope whoever comes across this book would come to love it as much as I do.

To begin with, Kate Morrison is plagued by the guilt of her bother, Matt’s broken dreams. As a consequence, the guilt causes many emotional problems in her life. For instance, the constant mental pressures of guilt causes Kate’s “crisis” during one of her zoology lectures. “Because if things had turned out differently, it would have been Matt standing in front of them” (Lawson, pg. 200).
