Bob Barkers Amazing Adventures
#7. 10 marks - If the book has a villain, why was his or her punishment justified? Freddie and Jason aren’t exactly villains in the book, but they were bullies to everyone in the camp, they punched Kevin in the face when Kevin and Joe were picking up fire wood, and would say rude comments to Kevin while they were canoeing. When Stan had to take Gord to the hospital because of the bear attack it was up to Joe to save the day, so he canoed to the camps and got the other guys, after he picked up Kevin, Mike and Raymond he went to Jason’s camp to find out he wasn’t there, and he knew exactly where he was, at Freddie’s camp. When they got to Freddie’s camp, Joe, Kevin, Mike and Raymond all hid in the bushes and started making noises, cracking sticks, and pushing around the bushes to scared Jason and Freddie. Earlier at camp, Gord told everyone at the campfire a story about a “Wildman” who lived in these woods, so when Joe, Kevin, Ray and Mike were scaring Freddie and Jason, Mike chased after them only wearing his shoes and shorts, and the rest of his body was smeared with mud, and fern leaves and branches were tied to his waist and shoulders pretending to be the “Wildman”. Jason and Freddie ran down the path screaming heading to the path where their canoe was. I think that was revenge by the other guys for Jason and Freddie being such jerks to them earlier in the camp. They all laughed it off and continued to go get Jaryl, who was last to get picked up.

The first way the author teaches us that revenge is guilt is through this quote "For a brief moment I hesitated- I trembled." Characters in The Scarlet Pimpernel showed actions for justice in an appropriate manner .In “Ozymandias” the main character, King Ozymandias , was an unliked Ruler. Revenge, the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for their wrongdoings against another, is characterized as a corruption of the mind of the affected individual. Throughout the history of literature, countless authors have incorporated the theme of revenge into their works. For example, in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s, The Scarlet Letter, Roger Chillingworth seeks revenge on Minister Dimmesdale because of his crime committed with Hester. Similarly, in William Shakespeare’s, Othello, Iago devises an evil plan to avenge Othello of his rumored sin.…

The character I have chosen to analyse is William Thornhill. He is the central character in the novel ‘Secret River’. His character is important, in the novel, because he was one of the first Europeans, sent to Australia, to work out their sentence for their crimes. Throughout the novel it shows that Thornhill did things for the right reasons, but his actions contrasted with his essentially good character. To some extent William Thornhill can be portrayed as a bad character due to his lack of responsibility regarding the law.…

Villains play a very important role in every literary work. Whether they exist as people, circumstances, or even nature, their purpose is to provide a problem to be solved by the “good guys”. Without villains, no piece of literature would be worth reading. Abigail Williams in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and Iago in Shakespeare’s Othello are master villains. Both antagonists are fuelled by thoughts of revenge, and rely heavily on deception and manipulation to get what they want.…
