Case Analysis: Jones • Blair Company
Jones • Blair Company is a competitive organization within the U.S. Paint Industry. It is a privately held corporation that produces and markets architectural paint under the company’s name. “Jones • Blair Company markets its paint and sundry items in over 50 counties in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Louisiana from its plant and headquarters in Dallas, Texas.” (Kerin and Peterson, 11th Ed. Page 103) The organization has recently held senior executives meetings to discuss where and how to deploy corporate marketing efforts among the various architectural paint coatings market served by the company in the southwestern United States. In recent years competition has accelerated. Competition for space in paint stores, lumberyards and hardware stores has also increased. As President of Jones • Blair Company, Alexander Barrett is concern with the marketing problem. After two meetings, the senior executive staff has been unable to come together with a solution to the problem or a general consensus of what to do to alleviate the situation. All four Vice Presidents (Advertising, Operations, Sales and Finance) along with the President are scheduled to meet again to resolve the marketing problem.
The strategic issues and problems that are hindering Jones • Blair Company is that numerous meetings have been held and no solution has been voted as the best possible solution for where and how to deploy corporate marketing efforts among the various architectural paint coatings market served by the company in the southwestern United States. During the meetings, none of the senior executive staff is able to agree upon a decision. All executive have their take on what is more important and should be done to make specific areas better.
