Dorothy Irene Height was born on March 24, 1912. Born in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of James Edward Height, and Fannie Burroughs Height, a contractor and a nurse respectively. With this in mind, a particular advantage that she had was that both of her parents had steady jobs and were able to support her and her family both prior to and after the migration.
