Birthday Party
THE ARGUEMENT
“COME ON!” screamed John’s red-faced mother. “WOULD YOU JUST CLEAN THAT MESS UP?” she added, pointing to a pile of crayons, paper, teddy bears and mechanical toys.
“WHAT IS WRONG WITH CLEARING UP THIS PILE OF JUNK??!! EVEN YOUR TWIN SISTER IS CLEARING UP HER DOLLS!!”
John’s mother finally gave up and started preparing the decorations and food.
PREPARATIONS
She forgotten all about the situation as she happily baked a cake in the shape of a heart, made French Fries, sandwiches, biscuits and dumplings. She prepared some drinks. A few hours later, she re-entered the living room holding balloons and streamers to hang up on the walls. Then, staring at John’s pile of toys, she scowled and cleared it up.
GUESTS
Half an hour later, a silver Mercedes drove onto the driveway, followed by a mini cooper. John rushed up to the mini cooper and greeted Frieda and Jason. His mother was welcoming her little sister and playing with the newborn baby, Georgina. April was standing next to Georgina, tickling her tiny toes.
Then, John’s Grandma came and parked her car on the side of the road as there was no more space in the driveway. Kaitlin, John’s twin sister, felt sorry for as she was hunched over and her husband already passed away. Last to arrive in the bright red car was Amelia and her mother.
“Can we start now?” asked John impatiently
SURPRISE!
John’s grandma was having her 60th birthday. His mother was talking to all his aunts and uncles and having a good time. John’s grandma said, “Wow!! I can’t believe you did this just for me! Just look at all those-those…things!”
DINNER AND GAME TIME
Everybody sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to John’s grandma as she blew out the candles and made a wish. She sliced the cake into eleven equal parts. John’s Grandmother enjoyed that time so much that she never stopped laughing.
When everybody was finished eating, they played snakes and ladders, chess and a game called ‘parking’.
BYE
It was getting dark. They smiled and waved goodbye as

There he was, sitting in the middle of the front yard five yards from a smoldering heap of sofa. How was Harold going to explain this one to his grandmother when she got home? Since he had moved in with her the year before, Harold had tried not to be any trouble. She was generous to let him stay, since he couldn’t afford a place of his own. He tried to keep to his room, quietly playing video games with his headset on, so as not to make too much noise. He did his own laundry, washed his own dishes, and tried to stay out of the way as much as possible. Now the house was wrecked. Who knows how much glassware was broken, not to mention the smoke damage.…

Aurorah- Rae, you continue to be interested in dramatic play, and this occasion was no different. You were in the sandpit shovelling sand into your red bucket. I sat down in the sandpit alongside you and started shovelling sand into my bucket too. We were soon joined by Tommy and Moira, who found their own buckets and containers to fill up sand with. “I making ice cream for me,” you told me as you continued to fill up your bucket. “What kind of ice cream are you making?” I asked you. “Chocolate and strawberry,” you replied. You kept shovelling sand until your bucket, as you did so you said to yourself “Happy birthday to me”. Then you tipped the bucket over and exclaimed “It’s broken”. “You need to try again,” I encouraged you.…

Already in the title we know the occasion. The story starts with an introduction of the protagonist and the location. We are at a restaurant where Clara, the protagonist, is hosting a birthday party. We are now familiar with the settings. As the story continues a conflict is rising, coffee or ice cream? The exposition consists mainly of a description of the settings and the stunning things with ice cream and not that big of a descriptions of Clara. I believe the reason for that is, that this text really is focusing on the importance of the weight situation; everything in moderation, as I believe is the message in this story and not a strong character in development, but I will get to that later on in my essay. Even though I think that the story suits the plot diagram in a certain way, because the story contains a rising action which entailing the climax. However the denouement and resolution is planted in our afterthoughts and not in the story. The story contains an omniscient narrator, which speaks through thoughts of both Clara and the waiter, he even know the fact that the waiter wishes to be cool. The narrator is not participating and remains objective through the story. The author has chosen a very vivid language in his story. It fits the story well because it gives the reader a better description of Clara’s beauty and it sets the ice cream as a magnificent weakness for Clara, furthermore it describes the flirt between the waiter and Clara. We see that at line 21 “Her Beauty is warm, not cold. She is a tantalizing as the geographic at Tahiti”. Clara gets described as a girl at her Zenith, and the guests, who by the way can’t get their attention away from Clara at any time at the birthday, can’t imagine her fade away from this perfection. Which explains their frustration for Clara’s rising interest for ice cream. As Clara is getting closer to eat the ice cream, they come with suggestions how to stay thin. Julie says that she just should puke it all…
