BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL PERSPECTIVE ESSAY
The writer will be looking at a bio-psychosocial model to use within this assignment as a holistic perspective in relation to my patient. It is my intention to use the model to critically evaluate the bio psychosocial factors in relation to my chosen patient. It remains important to recognise that both the psychological factors and social factors are addressed as they are just as important as the biological factors in determining the outcome of the patient Bio- psychosocial model is the most rational and effective way to understanding the causation and the treatment of an illness. It promotes nurses to understand illnesses or disease affects an individual. Professionals investigate all relevant sociological, biological and psychological factors that might be contributing to the occurrence, developing and management of the illness or diseases. For the purpose of this assignment I shall name my patient Kate in order to remain within the confidentiality clause of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2008). The area of practice shall also remain undisclosed. During my placement at an adult mental health assessment unit l worked with clients who were experiencing an acute mental health crisis. Kate, a 23 year lady was referred after her mental status began to rapidly deteriorate. Kate stated that early 2007 she noticed that her nipple was slightly raised. She went to see her GP. The GP referred her to the specialist breast clinic where she was diagnosed with a tumor deep within the breast. According to Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into invade surrounding tissues. Kate stated that had a mastectomy (breast removal). Few months late after the operation, she started chemotherapy. It made her feel queasy all the time.
