On October 17th, 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri, Marshall Bruce Mathers III was born to 15 year old Deborah Nelson Briggs. Marshalls Father, Bruce Mathers Jr., left when he was only 6 months old and never returned. Marshall had a rough child hood. He was always switching schools and never finished high school.

During his child hood he was constantly moving back and forth between Kansas City, Missouri and Detroit, Michigan. During his child hood he had to switch schools every 2 to 3 month, which made it hard for him to make friends. Switching schools also made it hard to stay out of trouble. He finally settled in Eastside Detroit, Michigan.

When Marshall was 14 he started to attend Lincoln High School in Warren, MI. After he failed the 9th grade 3 times he dropped out. He does not consider himself stupid and doesn’t advise that anyone follows his example. School just wasn’t his thing and he was never interested in going because all he wanted to do was rap.

After Marshall turned 17 he became very serious about his rapping and gave himself the name M & M. He chose the name M & M because they are his initials. M & M was later respelled as “Eminem”. He also gave himself the nickname Slim Shady. He says he gave himself the nickname Slim Shady because it just came to him and he liked it.

Eminem was rejected many times because of his race. This made him very angry. To this day, it still flows through his music. He forced himself onto radio shows, freestyle rap battles, he also threw himself head first into the rap game, most of the time he got ‘swallowed up’, but he never stopped trying.

In late 1995, his girlfriend Kimberly Anne Scott gave birth to their daughter Hailie Jade Scott-Mathers. Kim gave birth to her on December 25th. On June 14th, 1999, Kim and Marshall got married. They got a divorce on October 11, 2001. They remarried on January 14th, 2006, only to have another divorce on December 16th, 2006.
