BIOGRAPHY OF ALLAN PINKERTON

Allan Pinkerton was known as the father of several American police detective techniques and the owner of America’s most well known and upstanding detective agency. (Lerner, Eric.   Allan Pinkerton)
Allan Pinkerton was born August 25, 1819, in Glasgow.   He migrated to the United States in 1842 out of fear for his safety as a result of being involved in the turmoil of the Chartist riots. Upon Pinkerton coming to the United States he took up residence in Dundee where he assisted in capturing a group of counterfeiters.   This was one of Pinkerton’s first job as a detective, which lead Pinkerton into much larger things.   Upon Pinkerton taking part in several private detective jobs, Pinkerton was soon thereafter names deputy sheriff of Kane County; this took place in 1846.   (Bio True Story, 2008).

Between the time that Pinkerton migrated to Dundee and 1850 when Pinkerton formed his detective agency public law enforcement officials were exhibiting a large amount of difficulty in controlling crimes within communities and securing the safety for the citizens within that community. Due to the law enforcements inability to protect and serve this brought a significant amount of negative attention from citizens to be focused on the law enforcement agency’s to the extent that law enforcement agency’s were no longer known for their ability to protect and serve but rather their inability and ineffectiveness in doing the same. Pinkerton being encouraged by the present reputation of law enforcements agency’s created the idea of developing a security business to help assist law enforcement agency’s in certain situations and crimes in efforts of regaining the communities faith the public law enforcement and to reduce crime
