The Beyblade battling top phenomenon that swept the United States in 2002 and 2003 is returning with the introduction of Hasbro's Beyblade: Metal Fusion line, scheduled to be available in Canada in spring 2010 and in the United States in fall 2010. This line of Beyblades features a new, metal gear system and the introduction of an online virtual battle component. Tomy, Hasbro's partner in the first incarnation of Beyblades, re-launched the toy/game in Japan in 2008. Nearly 10 million Beyblade: Metal Fusion tops and accessories have been sold since then, according to a company press release. Also debuting this fall is a new Beyblade: Metal Fusion animated series, with 51 new episodes and a fresh cast of characters. "Beyblade is a powerful worldwide brand, and we are confident that a new generation will fully embrace our all-new line of high performance Beyblade battling tops," John Frascotti, Hasbro's chief global marketing officer, said in a press release. "Our Beyblade: Metal Fusion line takes a new approach to the top toy category, while the introduction of BeybladeBattles.com gives kids the opportunity to compete with other fans around the world like never before." Each top in the Beyblade: Metal Fusion line will come with five interchangeable parts, ready to be built and rebuilt. For example, the Performance Tip determines how aggressive a top will be in battle, the Fusion Wheel determines the weight of the top, and the Spin Track determines movement patterns. The last top spinning wins the battle. The following information about the 2010 Beyblade: Metal Fusion line comes from a Hasbro press release: Beyblade: Metal Fusion Battle Top Assortment (about $8)
