Since the age of 18 months I have had numerous hospital stays and operations, throughout these various hospital admissions my parents and my extended family have supported me in coping with this medical condition. They visited me, provided entertainment and thus distracted me from hospital surroundings. As I was so young (18 months) the impact of me being so ill was more devastating for my family as they had to cope with seeing me in a life threatening condition.…
And then I decided to start snorkeling. There was about 300 or so people on that beach and almost 100 of them were in the water. Crowded but still a lot of room to swim. About 5 minutes into snorkeling I started feeling fins hitting my left leg. “It’s just a fish keep swimming” I thought to myself. I turn and go the other way, And it followed me. I start freaking out. “What if it’s a shark!?” but were also in the shallows so a shark can’t survive there. (I didn’t know that at the time,) And I stop swimming, thinking it swam away. But it is right under me.…
As I am walking in the woods, I am startled by a floating shark. As I stand there stiff from fright, I wonder to myself what should I do. I look around me and see nothing but trees. As I think of a strategy, the shark is approaching.…
The reason why I wand to write a research paper about Bethany Hamilton is because she inspired me to keep going no matter what we face in our life that waith God anything is possible anything! She almost died an still had faith that God would bring her through the shark attack. When she was having trouble surfing she never gave up she kept getting back up an having faith that God will Help her through this and in the book of Phippians it says you can do all things through Christ who streneths you. I think she is an amazing girl an we can all learn from her experices an try things we haven’t an never give up.…
Just past the pool was the bright blue ocean. It was gorgeous! It was always hot and sunny and the cool breeze from the ocean felt refreshing. The sunrays were so bright that if I didn’t have my sunglasses on the sun would’ve blinded me. It was great to feel the warm sand between my toes. It was like having a foot massage in the white sand. Before I went into the ocean, I had to make sure I put a pound of sunscreen on. I would’ve looked like a bright red cherry if I wouldn’t have put on sunscreen.…
Many events over the course of my life have had a large influence on me. The one that has had the greatest effect on me was my mother’s stroke. I came home from school one day and went to my friend’s house. At around six o’clock, my dad picked me up and we went to the car. We questioned him about where our mother was and he said that she was in the hospital. I initially had no reaction, as I did not know how to react to the news. Then I immediately began to worry about whether it would impact our family or if he survived. We drove to the Emergency Room frantically. Once we got there, mom was laying in a hospital bed. She could not speak well and the left side of her body was not moving correctly. This scared everyone in the room until the doctor told us that she would recover in around a month. The doctor explained that a hemorrhage had occurred in her brain: a blood vessel had popped and blood had sprayed onto her brain. This was limiting her functions, but once her brain filtered out the blood, she would be alright. Mom remained in the hospital for three weeks and could not speak for the next two weeks. Throughout this time, I was still able to maintain my life.…
It was really early in the morning and the day was still dark. I remember the smell of the sea empowered by the storm from the night before. My father was a firefighter; he had to rescue more people than he can count, and there are still the cases when all he could do has recover a body for a broken family. For that he always reached me how to swim, how to act in an emergency and all the procedures that my 6 year old head could bear. My mom, in the other hand, is asmathic and has an medical historic that includes a bilateral dissection of the vertebrae. In short words she is not the best swimmer. That morning we decided to go swimming, as it seemed like the storms had stopped. We looked at the seen and it seemed calm, but what we didn't saw where the running water stream under the dark blue mirror. We got into the water, and in less than a few minutes I found myself fighting for air. The pain was excruciating; my lungs burned for air and my elbows and knees bleed from hitting the rocks. My eyes stinger from the salt, but I would not close them in the foolish hope to see my mother. I was in panic I tried all that I knew to get out of the stream, but I was too weak. Out of nowhere I felt an arm around me and a sudden breath cut through my small body making my hole self tremble. It was my father; he saw us and ran to save us. He lay me at the sand and run back for my mother. Amazingly we both were ok with minor bruises thanks to…
Waking up from my accident a week and five days later, I didn’t know what had happened to me. Most of my immediate family was around me, my twin sister told me everything in detail and how it happened. I was shocked and couldn’t believe it, but I had to believe it. Doctors told my family I was not going to be the same. I had to learn how to eat, walk, add, Spanish, cursive pretty much everything.…
When I have my bad days, all I have to think about is the person that inspires me. To me, inspiration is the process of instilling faith in someone to motivate him or her to do something. Many people do things simply out of the kindness in their heart, and do not realize they are inspiring others around them. Bethany Mota is the person who inspires me the most.…
Earlier that day I had been riding my horse, Shane. Everything was going as usual; we had warmed up and were now running through the pasture. We had done this dozens of times before, so it took me by surprise when my horse started to buck. Just as we rounded the corner in the pasture, something rustled in the small shrub that hugged the wooden fence, causing Shane to become spooked. At this point, he was bucking out of control and I could not calm him down. So I held on as long as I could but eventually lost my grip. I was thrown across the pasture, landing on my back. I immediately jumped up, gathered my horse, and we rode back to the house as quickly as possible.…
We got up the next morning put on our beach attire and went straight down to the beach. Everything was going great until my friend tried to convince me to go further into the water. My friend knew how deathly afraid I was of sea life and yet she convinced me to go further in. Going further than my ankles in the water was a first time experience for me; and ended up being a bad first experience. At first the water was good waist deep, and then we went all the way to where the water was at my chest. We were body surfing and having a good time when all of a sudden I felt a painful sting on my leg, so my instinct told me to look down and when I did I noticed a jellyfish just nonchalantly swimming away. I don't think I ever ran that fast out of water. When I finally got to the land I promised myself I would never go that far into the ocean again.…
When we arrived, my sister and I were amazed by the beauty of the ocean as we ran out the car. Before our eyes, lightly tanned colored sand embellished the ground. The waves were not as big as we were made to believe, but still big in compared to our small bodies. Above the water, was a clear sky in a deep, vibrant shade of blue with snowy white clouds. Nothing could compare to the sight except for the feelings that the ocean brought with it.…
That night I was involved in a car wreck that left me paralyzed chest down, a life that I never dreamt of even in my wildest nightmares, now I am a paraplegic, life took an unexpected turn from that day, I knew doctors couldn’t do much, they wouldn’t tell me anything about my recovery all I knew was to pray and ask God what his purpose is for…
The ambulance took about ten minutes to arrive to the Southwest Memorial Hospital. I remember that in the Hospital they took many x-rays, and put me on a machine to get a scan. There was not found internal bleeding. Then the doctor said that the wounds were not so serious. I spent almost three hours at the hospital. I had not called my family, because I did not want them to worry. When I arrived at my home, I told my wife all about the accident.…
It seemed to take forever for the door to break away, but I was finally able to get out and into an ambulance for the ride to the hospital. The reality of the crash seemed to hit me as I arrived at the emergency room, and I was in complete shock. Thankfully my friends called my mom and family to let them know what had happened. I layed in the emergency room for what seemed like countless…
