Introduction
Being a successful supervisor involves more than just being in charge. There are many basics skills necessary to help you develop the best outcomes for your company and the employees you manage. In this manual you will find the tools necessary to help with your everyday tasks necessary to fulfill your position effectively. Being a successful supervisor involves certain responsibilities such as demonstrating effective communication skills, determining effective orientation and training methods, improving productivity for teams, conducting performance appraisals, resolving conflict, and improving employee relations.
Demonstrating Effective Communication Skills
The first best practice skill in being able to properly lead employees is demonstrating effective communication skills. Communication involves a variety of important concepts that a supervisor must possess to make sure your employees are receiving valuable feedback and information to use for completing their daily tasks. Providing verbal communication skills, listening skills, written memorandums, emails, telephone skills and non-verbal communication will provide assurance to the company and your employees that the necessary tasks will be completed with effective results. In addition it is imperative to reflect upon all the people we communicate to whether it be subordinates, peers, management, and customers. (Ainsworth)
Allowing yourself the proper time each day to communicate to each of your employees will allow you the information you need to make sure your supervisor duties are being fulfilled.
