Excuse me, everyone.   If I could have you're attention for a moment.   I'd like to take a little time to say a few words about our bride and groom. I'm Chad, Adam's older, wiser, and slightly shorter, brother, as well as his best man.   A big thank you goes to John and Mary for making this day possible.   We're all delighted to be here on such a joyous and beautiful occasion.  

I'd like to try something a little different right now...let's call it "star participation."

Adam, if you would, please take Carol's hand and place your other hand over hers.   (wait until he does)   Now I want you to look deep into her eyes, and take a few moments to revel in, and to cherish this moment.   I want you take in this moment, and forever remember exactly how you feel right now.   Because, you see, this is the very last time you'll be able to say that you have the upper hand! (wait for laughter to slow)

But all joking aside, I would like to speak of the two most important factors in a loving and committed relationship.   These two very crucial points, are quite simply two words.   The first, and certainly the most obvious, is love.   Love is without a doubt the most complex, and beautiful, of all human emotion.   There may be countless, varying degrees of love we all experience.   But the penultimate, absolute peak of this emotion is unconditionally true, and honest love.   This type of love is so mind-blowing, it can inspire us to be who we're truly meant to be, or it can cause us to freeze like a deer that sees approaching headlights.   And when we feel true love, we can either embrace it, or allow it to run us over while we stand completely still.

See, the other day I was watching a movie in which the main character's best friend tells him how, in ancient Greece, when someone passed on, there was no such thing as an obituary for that person.   He says there was only one question that was ever asked about the person.   What that question was is what got me wondering about this...
