Benito Mussolini, a key fascist figure in the 20th century, was the leader of Italy from 1922 to 1943. Officially his title was His Excellency Benito Mussolini, Head of Government, Duce of Fascism, and Founder of the Empire. Though most people just thought of him as the Prime Minister. Most people have looked down upon Mussolini throughout history though they haven’t exactly given him a fair chance. In fact, Mussolini did quite a lot of good for Italy and helped the country through many hardships, with his economic and foreign policies.
I, Benito Mussolini, changed Italy’s foreign policy quite a lot while in power. I changed my country from a pacifist nation, into a more extreme nationalistic country and wanted Italy to be feared throughout all of Europe much like Cesar’s Roman Empire. I wanted all of Europe to be scared of me by bullying other countries and taking land, though without drawing any attention from the big powers in Italy like France and Britain.
One of the things that showed how I wanted everyone to fear the great powers of Italy was how I handled the incident in Corfu in 1993. While in Greece, one of my Italian generals and three of his men were captured and slain by Greek nationalists (Fascist Italy). I wasn’t going to let them get away with this, without paying a price. I gave them until August 29 to surrender 50 million lire to Italy. Greece didn’t respond to this ultimatum so I bombed Corfu, one of their outlying islands killing about 15 people. The death toll was small but the message was clear. No one should try to mess with Italy, at least while I’m in charge.
Even though I was very aggressive in taking new land to support Italy’s copious population, I did participate in the Locarno Treaties in 1925.
