Hilton Worldwide, also known as Hilton Hotels Corporation, is a global hospitality company. It was founded by Conrad Hilton in Cisco, Texas and was headquartered in Beverly Hills, California from 1969 until 2009. Before that, in 1919, Conrad N. Hilton began with a 40-room hotel. As of August 2012 Hilton brands encompass 3,897 hotels with over 642,000 rooms in 91 countries. As many companies are using more and more information systems (IS) and information technology (IT) within to improve and meet the needs of the next generation, the Hilton is doing the same. Some of the benefits associated with the use of IT for the Hilton Hotel are: * IT can assist in managing inventory and purchasing (the number of rooms available) * IT can help maximize the use of this inventory item

* IT can assist in the gathering and use of customer data to be used to personalize the guests stay in the hotel * IT will help the hotel industry to meet the changing needs of next generation of hotel customers * OnQ (Hilton's IT program) continues growth, increase profitability, and foster customer royalty * IT increases customer satisfaction and significant cost savings with faster check in/out time, getting customer's information easily and an easy way to book rooms (“Benefits of using,” 2012)

Risks of IS and IT
Even though there are many benefits to using IT within a business there are some risks involved as well. Some of the risks associated with the use of IT for the Hilton Hotel are: * Physical risks - resulting from physical access or damage to IT resources like the servers (theft, damage from natural or man-disaster, unauthorized access to confidential data by outsider) * Electronic risks - hacker could get access to company's website or server, then IT system could become infected by a virus, or fall victim to a fraudulent email or website * Technical risks - data on a failed hard drive cannot be retrieved and no backup copy is available (software bugs, computer crash, failure of a computer component) * Infrastructure risks - loss of internet connection can interrupt the business * Human error - it is critical if employee accidentally deletes important data, or fails to follow security procedures properly (“IT risk”2012)

Web-based check-in 24 hours prior to arrival enables guests with password-protected online account to select their room type and features based on preferences and history and print their confirmation document. eCheck-in is available to guests who are Gold and Diamond VIP members of the Hilton HHonors guest reward program.
