Our society is changing and moving fast due to the advanced technologies. The technologies such as internet, transportation and advancement in medical have bought us more comfortable and convenient life style. It is hard to foresee how the society will be changed in the future. One of the big changes in our life is that people live longer and healthier due to the advanced medical care. Unfortunately, this becomes burden for companies who offer retirees pension plan. Because of people are living longer in retirement, the costs a lot more. (Ivancevich, p382) Therefore, companies start to look for a way to get out of the promise that they made for their retirees. While companies are looking for ways to get away from their promise, there are many issues are emerging throughout the nation which includes ethical issue, and the government intervention. First of all, it is unethical for a company to promise benefits and then years later walk away from the promise. Instead of looking for the solution, it seems like they are looking for the way to get out of the situation. Simply say, they cannot walk away from their promise that the organization made to their employees. When people are looking for a job, one of the important things that they are looking for is the good company. In addition, the benefits offered by the company may be the reasons that people are staying their job. They worked hard and stayed in the company for 30 years, because the company has a good retirement plan. The company just cannot walk away and saying ‘thank you for your 30

I choose to research Medicare because is one of the biggest polices that affect the elderly. ‪I will research the following, the parts of Medicare including the "doughnut hole" advantage cuts, what’s covered, what’s provided, Policy Challenges, Benefits and Affordability. Medicare as we know it today came into existence in July of 1965 during the Johnson Administration. Franklin Roosevelt's administration was the first to address the subject of government assisted health care. During State of the Union speeches in 1943-1945, Roosevelt spoke about universal health care, and Americans being covered from "Cradle to Grave" (Mallon 2013). In 1950, 12.3 million personas living in the United States were aged 65 and older. By 2000, the number of personas aged 65 and older had grown to 35 million. The older population will continue to grow rapidly over the next few decades as the first baby boomers turn 65 in 2011 (Wacker & Roberto 2013). ‬Most Americans think that social security as a retirement program for the nations elderly. There are three types of programs are authorized under the social Security act: social insurance, public assistance and health and social services. These programs serve Americans of all ages and income level (Barusch 2012). Socoial security is a pay as you go program. That is most of revenue collected through payroll taxes go to pay for the benefits of current recipients. As a result, money is rarely a major concern. However, many people fail to save that money. Instead, they spend it on vacations, their families and in the pursuit of living fun lives. This can lead to a rude awakening when they retire. Because they have not saved much money during their career, a lot of people discover that they do not have enough money to live comfortably during their retirement years.     The cost of insurance has increased dramatically over the past decade, far surpassing the general rate of inflation in most years. Between 1989 and 1996, the average amount an employee had to contribute for family coverage jumped from $935 to $1778. In 1990, American companies spent $177 billion on health benefits for workers and their dependents; that number rose to $252 billion by 1996, or more than double the rate of inflation.
