Bend it like Beckham
In the film Bend it Like Beckham directed by Gurinder Chada displays an internal conflict of decision making through Jess’ internal struggle with soccer and family. Jess’ sister continues to be successful and gets engaged, Jess tries to ignore these desires and wishes to play soccer. Jess is torn between the choice of either playing soccer and disrespecting her family’s wishes or respecting her family’s wishes and not playing soccer. The reason why this is even a problem is the fact that her family does not want her to be playing soccer and they want her to be a more of a mature cultural woman, whereas Jess wants to steer away from this and have a career in soccer. An example of the conflict within Bend it Like Beckham arises when Jess’ sister wedding falls on the same day as Jess’ soccer team finals does. This example supports the claim because it shows how Jess has to choose between family or soccer and that there’s is no way she can choose both which results in her being torn internally.
To best solve the problem Jess chooses to stick with her family. When the finals do happen to be on the same day as Jess’ sister’s wedding, Jess made the decision to stay with her family and risk not make not making it to the game. This shows how she finally gives in to the conflict just to get it over with. The decision gives the feeling of resolution while also making the audience disagree with her choice to potentially be giving up her dreams.
In the film Bend it Like Beckham directed by Gurinder Chada displays an internal conflict of decision making through Jess’ internal struggle with soccer and family. The author does an excellent job of making the viewers feel apart of the conflict by making it a very emotionally driven one by making the main character, Jess, feel hopeless when it came to what she wanted to do. I think it is a great use of the conflict through out the movie.

In the video “Futbol Flop” is satirical because of the exaggeration and irony being used. The people the article is making fun of, is soccer players worldwide and the fans. The events in the video shown was a soccer game and later on was a player walking to the gates of heaven. The author makes fun of how a soccer player can be barely touched or not touched at all and make a big scene about it. As the video shows a defensive player stealing the ball clean from the opponent and the offensive player does a cartwheel, falls down and grabs his shin as he yells in pain. As he yells gives the example of exaggeration being used. The video clip also shows the soccer player dying and going to the heavenly gates and then returns back to the game to kick…

She places her hands on her knees and bends over in order to catch her breath. She looks out at the goal and the goalkeeper, then takes a quick glance at her teammates– her eyes scanning the stadium as she does. The vivid colors of the American and Chinese flags stand out no matter where she looks. The sound of silence engulfs her, and she can feel the audience’s eyes drilling holes into her. She takes her hands off her knees, stands up and looks down at the ball. The Chinese goalkeeper keeps her eyes focused on her opponent and the ball, making sure she does not look away for even a second. She takes a deep breath, and is overwhelmed by the smell of dirt and sweat. She looks down at the ball and then the goalie.…

Jess fixed that by becoming good friends with Leslie. Jess finally got a great friend that helped him have a flourishing friendship. This is the most important reason why this is a touching story. It is a story about true friendship between Jess and Leslie. It is human nature to have a strong friendship. Without a strong friendship of any kind, a child could become an outcast, and that can lead to dropping out of highschool and becoming a delinquent. This could also lead to how people that are lonely tend to sleep less than social people. All of this can lead to heart problems, increased blood pressure, lack of focus and retention. So promoting and supporting true friendships also promotes school work and good…

Gurinder Chadha has used dialogue to show the difference posed by opposing cultures. And most particular, Jesminder Bhamra (or ‘Jess’ as she is commonly known), is made to overcome the complications of wanting to both appease her traditional Sikh family, and her constant internal struggle as she tries to achieve her goal of becoming a football player, like her idol David Beckham. Gurinder Chadha’s dialogue is used to show the resistance Jess has to face, as she battles against what her family’s tradition asks of her, like cooking and learning how to become the ideal Indian wife, and the opposition that Jess has to overcome in the form of her disapproving parents.…

But from his cringing attitude he would seem to an outsider the one being flailed. With burning-red face, the woman accepts the role of aggressor as penance for the fact, the incessant shameful fact that he has to wrestle with the world while she hides here, in solitude, at home. This is normal, but does not seem to them to be so.” He stated in his writing that ‘his father’ caused him to be depressed which made him hate life. He moves back and forth from the dark past and bring the readers back into present which makes it hard for the reader to understand at times. The writing shows that it’s hard for the father to see his son go through hard times, but also happy to see him be successful. He is wonderful to watch, playing soccer. Smaller than the others, my son leaps, heads, dribbles, feints, passes. When a big boy knocks him down, he tumbles on the mud, in his green-and-black school uniform, in an ecstasy of falling. I am envious. Never for me the jaunty pride of the school uniform, the solemn ritual of the coach's pep talk, the camaraderie of shook hands and slapped backsides, the shadow-striped hush of late afternoon and last quarter, the solemn vaulted universe of official combat, with its cheering mothers and referees striped like zebras and the bespectacled timekeeper alert with his…

From what I see, I know you are a very protective of Jess, but I think that you might be protecting her the wrong way. I know Mr Bhamra that you have been discriminated by some English man in the past but I assure you that this has not happened to Jess with her team mates. They treat Jess as the same to themselves, and they support her, and I treat all my players the same to each and everyone one of them. I know you are very concern of her, but instead of protecting her without realising you are controlling her life. I see that Jess is not even excited about her sister’s wedding; well she is being force to abandon football and the chance of playing professionals. If this continues the outcome would not be pleasant. She would never be happy at whatever she does.…
