Belonging Essay - Eminem Mockingbird
Everyone desires to feel like they belong, belonging is one of the keys in life that everyone needs to have, the necessity to be part of something greater then just themselves wether it is family, friends, co-workers or even a team such as for sport. It is a major source of motivation to everyone.
No matter how hard you try to keep a relationship together they still can sometimes fall apart resulting in the person who tried to stop this becoming alienated from those who they loved.
Throughout Eminem’s (Marshal Bruce Mathers III) life, he has gone through a lot of issues especially in the concept of belonging. One of the songs that best describe the issues that have caused his belongingness to change throughout time resulting in his family’s relationship issues is “Mockingbird”.
In the song “Mockingbird” by Eminem, Marshal Bruce Mathers III tells us with strong imagery (such as “Now I’m sittin in this empty house, just reminiscing”) how he had become alienated by his family (mainly wife) and the reasons why he has chosen the direction of which he had in his life. He made this song so that his daughter (Hailie) and Niece of which he has legal custody of (Lainnie) which he also calls his daughter, could understand what had happened and to tell them that with all that has happened both him and their mother still loved them very much even if they didn’t love each other anymore. And that they have always got to keep their head up, keep moving forward even when things are getting worse. The darkest part of the night is right before the dawn, and that things in life always get worse before they get better, For them to just not give up.
