Lately in most areas of my life I feel very vulnerable to my set of circumstances. My degree of self-awareness was heightened when I started to take inventory of how often my feelings about being “vulnerable” were being felt. Vulnerability is a part of every human being but I tend to believe that I am the only one who feels this way. I have learned that there are many pros and cons to feeling vulnerable. During my research, I came across a very distressing point of being vulnerable and that is, that it is painful. Sometimes it might even be harmful. Being vulnerable can lead to a sense of feeling exposed, to being emotionally hurt, or being taken advantage of. It has also included feelings of being unstable, feeling anxious, or that I was being completely ignored. I have discovered that my vulnerability has offered me a chance to grow personally, emotionally and psychologically. Opening myself up to a deeper strength that I did not know I had. In therapy I had addressed feelings of anger, which I had suppressed due to an extreme amount of pain. I have tried to deal with major heartache, and a “guilty complex syndrome” that are still being resolved today. I had very few coping skills to apply to help me solve the problems correctly. These unresolved emotions have influenced my behaviors, my attitudes and my beliefs. Some have caused tribulations that have interrupted my lifestyle. There have been moments that I have not wanted to continue to live or to face the certain level of poverty that is still ahead of me.
Sometimes it is hard to step out in faith when I want to try a new experience. As I grow in my awareness about the positive side effects that vulnerability has, I will grow to confront new challenges and take on new behaviors.
