BEEP Conference
The entire BEEP conference was exceptionally inspirational. I believe because this is my senior year, the conference stands in my opinion as one of the greatest conferences that I attended. The black executives were knowledgeable on the various
subjects and were well prepared for any unexpected questions that the students happened to throw their way. They were also so eager to offer professional help to the students, which I thought was a very warm gesture to show that they care about their success.
DSU alumnus Kevin Washington, who is a regional vice president of Primerica Financial Services, stressed the importance of being an entrepreneur and being financial aware of your future. When Mr. Washington spoke of financially aware of what you want to go in life, and to make sure that you have a plan. Whether the economy was to be good or bad, Mr. Washington would still be able to able to make a living in the financial sector because he is dealing with customers who either have or don’t have money.
Ms. LaCresha Milner of KPMG and Melissa Carpenter of UPS stressed the importance of differentiating yourself from your peers whether it be through knowing another language or gaining more knowledge to better yourself. They talked about the competitiveness of trying to get a job in the corporate world, and that our competition is everywhere around us.
The second BEEP program that I attended was the round table discussion. The round table discussion had multiple tables set up each having a question and a black executive representative. The executives were extremely open to the students and were eager for us to take advantage of their knowledge for our benefit. Each was very informative and seemed to sincerely care for the well being of the students.
