A engineering achievement that has made a huge impact to today's society is the Shippingport Atomic Power Station. The Shippingport Atomic Power Station was the first world full scale atomic power plant that was devoted to exclusively to peacetime users only. The power station started its production December 18, 1957. It took thirty two months to create the power station and it cost 72.5 million dollars.…
The question of whether the U.S. should have nuclear power plants is very controversial. There are two sides that one can take; however, both sides have their own share of problems. If you chose to not have nuclear plants, then eventually all natural resources will run out. The oil supply will run out relatively soon, and all other sources will run out too. The natural resources that we have now are still harmful to the earth however. The gas which we use for our cars pollutes the air and considering the amount of cars the are driven each day, it is ripping apart the o-zone layer. However, if the U.S. does decide to use nuclear plants, then there is a great danger of toxic waste invading our rivers, and also the chance of a spill similar to Chernobyl. As we saw in the Chernobyl video, there is great danger when using nuclear energy. If this were to happen is the United States, the risk of mortality is much higher because the area's in which there would be a plant such as a big city are very densely populated. Because of these facts, I do not think that the U.S. should renew its efforts to develop more nuclear plants.…
In 1938, three chemists discovered how to split the uranium atom. When the atom splits it releases a tremendous about of energy, enough to power a bomb. But when they made this huge discovery there was many more problems that had to be solved before they could use such a weapon. Albert Einstein learned that the Germans were succeeding in solving how to make such a weapon. Einstein and Enrico Fermi, who escaped Fascist Italy agreed that the President must be informed of the dangers of atomic technology in the hands of the Axis powers. Then Einstein wrote a letter to President Roosevelt with his concerns in 1939. This letter helped initiate the U.S. effort to build an atomic bomb to fight the war. But in July 1940, the U.S. Army Intelligence…
If such nuclear power wasn’t used, death tolls would have risen and it might’ve been more…
The Manhattan Project was secret military project created in 1942 to produce the first US nuclear weapon. The Manhattan Project basically arrived from the ideals and fears of a Nazi Germany having access to nuclear capabilities during the war, and the threat of them using those nuclear weapons was at an all time high during the reign of Hitler. In order to combat this alarming problem, the United States government/military started a top secret program to help develop the world’s first nuclear weapon. The Manhattan project was directed by US physicist named Robert Oppenheimer and General Leslie R. Groves. The two went on to recruit hundreds of the best engineers, scientists, and mathematicians in the United States. In the same respect dozens…
As a citizen of our country, we need to participate in every endeavor in the process. One of this is the development are Malampaya Deep Water Gas to Power project. When I’m reading articles, facts, and history about this, I was surprised with 137.288 billion pesos estimated fund collected annually with this project. In reality with this capital, we can build another oil industry and various projects to manipulate this asset which primarily based on research that Philippines are rich in natural resources. When we overcome this proper usage, manipulation, development and strengthening the force of our country that we may be not able to bully by other states and get this place which are capable to make our country powerful than them. If this so, Philippines have the capabilities to pace with other countries also focuses on producing oil and other natural resources found in their area. But what happen? It goes to the pockets of the corrupt government officials instead it is for the development of the country. But there’s nothing new about it. What was the road were taking in? Is this the track that they promised with their sweet words? Or if I will understand this at present, promises are really made to be broken.…
Nuclear reactor is any class of devices that can initiate and control a self-sustaining series of nuclear fissions. Nuclear reactors are used as research tools, as systems for producing radioactive isotopes, and most prominently as energy sources for nuclear power plants.Djeresssi (1991)…
As a tourism student and one of the persons who should take cares the natural resources, I disagree about the reclamation of one of the finest port in Asia, the Manila Bay. In my own opinion, instead of reclaiming it, why not restore it? It can help a lot in the reservation of Mother Earth. There are many reasons to disagree with it. First, the further reclamation of Manila Bay will endanger the fragile marine ecosystem which contributes to food production and mitigates the disastrous effects of calamities and floods in nearby areas. Second, Manila Bay also has historical and cultural value that must be preserved for future generations. Third, Manila Bay belongs to everybody. This is essentially a finance driven project and will only benefit a few people. Fifth, where the soil is sourced? Whether it came from Manila Bay or any mountains, certainly it will still affect the environment. Last but…

Aside from political power, the Philippines should also be able to cater to its citizens and to protect them from attacks and ensure their security. From dreaded terrorists to individual crime rates, the military should also be capable of protecting citizens through advanced armory, tracking systems and efficient justice systems (Gray, 2011). Most of the problems in today’s military strategy are not the existence of the equipment but the capability to power them up and therefore reduce the costs for their creation (Gray, 2011). With the aid of solar power, the military can produce better equipment that can easily track down wanted individuals, or those that can place internal security systems to provide people with increased security both inside and outside their homes. With solar energy, the military can also be able to combat vicious terrorists such as ISIS or the Al-Qaeda and therefore restore political and social stability in the world.…
2. Nuclear Fission :- In nuclear physics and nuclear chemistry, nuclear fission is a nuclear reaction in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts (lighter nuclei), often producing free neutrons and photons (in the form of gamma rays), and releasing a tremendous amount of energy. The two nuclei produced are most often of comparable size, typically with a mass ratio around 3:2 for common fissile isotopes.[1][2].The smallest of these ranges in size from a proton to an argon nucleus. Fission of heavy elements is an exothermic reaction which can release large amounts. Fission is a form of nuclear transmutation because the resulting fragments are not the same element as the original atom. Nuclear fission produces energy for nuclear power and to drive the explosion of nuclear weapons.…

As the science and technology become better and better, nuclear power could also serve humans in good ways like giving energies such as electricity. But concerns about nuclear power never go away: nuclear power’s ultimate power could easily bring disasters to human kind. Many people wish that human could just never touch that power again. And that kind of concerns does make sense: there are examples of all kinds of troubles nuclear power bought to human kind. Nuclear power is like a double sided sword, it can cause goods and troubles. The purpose of this article is to introduce the history of nuclear power and give some positives and negatives of nuclear power.…
Concerns about the disastrous event in the past make people to look into nuclear technology in a very negative perspective. For example, the 1979 partial meltdown of a reactor at Three Mile Island and the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. On that note, the most recent international event regarding nuclear technology possession, where Iran falls under probation for using nuclear technology for non-peaceful purposes (Iran entitled to use peaceful nuclear technology: EU official, 2013). It is not denied that nuclear power could lead to nuclear weapon creation which has long-lasting devastating effects on the environment and harmful to mankind. Though there are some disadvantages in nuclear technology, the amount of advantages is higher compared to risks that it brings (Sustainable Development & Nuclear Power). The benefits and the importance of nuclear technology are exposed in the following parts of the essay.…
