Barbie and Ken Speech
Barbra Millicent Roberts, better known as Barbie, was first introduced in 1959. This new doll sold for $3.00, and became the new toy that every little girl (or boy) wanted. Two years after Barbie was introduced, Ken Carson was introduced to the doll family in 1961. Barbie & Ken may be a fun toy to have, but are highly judged for not being reality. Today I will talk about Barbie & Ken’s history and their history as a couple. Barbie is a fashion doll who is manufactured by the American toy-company Mattel, Inc. Ruth Handler is credited with the creation of the doll using a German doll called Bild Lilli as her inspiration. According to http://www.dolls4play.com/barbiehistory.html, last accessed December 16, 2013, Barbie was a tall, thin, blonde who was a inspirational fashion designer and model. Ken Carson was introduced in 1961 and was the fictional boyfriend of Barbie. Similar to Barbie, Ken had a fashionable line of clothing and accessories. Next, I will be talking about Barbie & Ken’s relationship. Barbie and Ken first met in 1961 on their first television commercial together. According to http://www.barbiemedia.com/ken/history.html, last accessed December 16, 2013, it was love at first sight. Now I don’t know about you, but I think acting like these dolls had “love at first sight” is pretty ridiculous. We all know good and well that these dolls are not humans. Anyway, Barbie and Ken have had their ups and downs when it comes to dating. After being together for 43 years, Barbie and Ken decided to end their relationship in 2006. Surprisingly in 2011, they decided to rekindle their love for each other and continue to spend the rest of their lives together. So, today I informed you on the history of Barbie and Ken and the history of their relationship. As I stated earlier, Barbie & Ken may be a fun toy to have, but are highly judged for not being reality, so don’t pressure yourself into being that perfect guy or girl, because neither of these dolls are
